Chasing Dreams as a Mom: 3 Tips for Success I’ve encountered numerous women who, after becoming mothers, either seem to halt their pursuit of dreams or find that motherhood propels them to greater heights. I once felt stuck in motherhood, grappling with the thought, “So, is this it for me?” It took a complete redirection of my life, starting with a shift in mindset – a change you can begin cultivating today.
The mind is a powerful force that believes what you will it to believe. So, mama, start telling yourself affirming thoughts. Remind yourself of your greatness, power, passion, and potential. Chasing dreams in motherhood may feel daunting, but not as scary as living the rest of your life wondering what could have been if you took a chance on yourself.
We’ll never know what could be if we don’t try. With trying and failing, lessons are learned and reapplied for better results or outcomes. Becoming a mom doesn’t mean putting your dreams on hold; it means finding a way to chase them while embracing the beautiful chaos of motherhood.
Here are three tips to help you navigate the journey of pursuing your dreams while being an amazing mom:
1. Embrace Flexibility:
Life as a mom is unpredictable, and flexibility becomes your greatest ally. Instead of rigid plans, adopt a mindset that allows you to adapt to the ebb and flow of motherhood. Adjust your schedule, find alternative solutions, or be open to new opportunities that align with your goals. Flexibility doesn’t mean giving up; it means finding creative ways to keep moving forward.
For example, if faced with a remote job opportunity but unsure how to manage work with kids around, don’t turn it down. Instead, build systems to gradually ease into it while communicating your needs. You’d be amazed at how things fall into place.
2. Prioritize Self-Care:
Balancing dreams and motherhood requires a well-nourished, physically and emotionally healthy you. I’ll tell you that for a fact! However, some moms may find themselves unsure about their dreams. If you’re in this boat, don’t worry. Take this time for self-discovery. What are the activities that make you lose track of time? What brings you joy? Reflecting on these aspects can guide you towards discovering your passions and aspirations.
Prioritize self-care to recharge and maintain the energy needed to pursue your goals. Whether it’s taking short breaks, practicing mindfulness, or asking for help, self-care is not a luxury but a necessity. By taking care of yourself, you’re better equipped to care for your family and explore your dreams.
3. Build a Support Network of Like-Minded Moms:
Surround yourself with a strong support system. Being part of a community of like-minded moms can make all the difference. Share your dreams with those who uplift and encourage you. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when needed. Knowing you have a tribe cheering you on can provide the motivation and strength to overcome challenges.
For the mom without a clue as to what her dreams are or unsure about her life’s direction, you are not alone!
The beauty of life is that it’s okay to sometimes not have things figured out. It doesn’t make you “less serious” or less ambitious about your life. However, what you can do is outline a few things that make you happy. It could be things people say you do well or how you like to help others.
Start by doing those things; this way, you’ll at least discover what you don’t like or what doesn’t make you happy. Take your time—it’s okay. What’s important is that you’re moving. Because sometimes, it’s in doing that we find clarity.
Remember, being a mom doesn’t mean putting your dreams on hold or sacrificing your dreams; it means finding a harmonious balance. Embrace the journey, stay flexible, prioritize self-care, and build a support system that empowers you. Chasing your dreams as a mom is not only possible but can be an enriching and fulfilling experience.
